If going back to school wasn’t already difficult enough, trying to juggle classes along with a family and a job makes it much more challenging. Earning your technical degree can sometimes seem like a daunting task, but with hard-work and these 4 steps you will be on your way to success in trade school training!
1. Be an Active Student
It is essential for you to come prepared for vocational training with all necessary materials, a positive attitude and an intent to actively listen and participate. As an active listener, it is important to tune into the discussion in front of you and to leave all other distractions outside of the classroom. Taking notes is a good way to help you remember material and follow along. Remember, you don’t have to write down the lesson word for word, a few words on the topic should suffice.
Also, as an active participant, it is important to engage in classroom discussions. Learning from your peers is a great way to expand your knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the content. Don’t be afraid to ask questions when material is unclear. Chances are someone else in the room has the same question. If you aren’t comfortable asking questions in class, reach out to instructors before or after class to receive additional help.
2. Maximize Your Time
With families and jobs, it can be difficult to find time to study or attend class. However, one of the most efficient ways to budget your time is to plan ahead. Buy a planner or calendar to schedule time for vocational training, studying, work and personal time. Set goals and deadlines for yourself, and stick to them. Procrastination can result in you falling behind. It is much easier to stay on top of things rather than trying to play catch up. Designate a specific time and place to study. Avoid stress by keeping your study space organized.
Additionally, take advantage of your weekends. Although days-off are great, utilize weekends to get ahead in your trade school training in case something comes up during the week that impedes your ability to hit the books. Lastly, don’t cram for exams! Don’t wait until the last minute to study. Preparing throughout the course of your vocational training will help to alleviate some of the stress during the time of exams.
3. Find a Study Group
Studying alone can be a dull, tedious task. However, studying with a group of your peers during your vocational training can bring new perspectives and help you to faster and better learn the material. Having other students to keep you accountable is great way to avoid procrastination. Finally, study groups are a great tool for improving real world skills. After graduation, collaboration with other coworkers will be essential to solve problems in the workplace. Study groups will help you gain the skills necessary to become a professional individual.
4. Come to Class!
It may seem obvious, but coming to class is the most important tip for success at Career Technical Institute. The more you attend class, the less time you’ll need to study. Missing class can result in falling behind or missing out on vital information for success in your future career.

Today, more than ever, we live in a global culture. With the advent of the Internet, social media, and other technologies, it seems like everything and everyone is connected. Naturally, this global world has caused many changes. One of the biggest changes has been the huge increase in travel and the resulting expansion of the hospitality industry.
It makes sense that with this surge in travel, the hospitality industry would have to expand. For a long time, most of the only businesses that operated within hospitality were hotels and restaurants. Moreover, not many people moved around. People were poorer, transportation was limited, and “tourism” was only for the rich and few. It took weeks and sometimes even months to cross an ocean by boat.
Today, travelers can flit from country to country in a matter of hours. And they do. Tourism is also much cheaper. In just the last 20 years, world travel has almost doubled. Without the crucial hospitality industry to accommodate all of these travelers, there’s no way that we could live in the connected, fast-paced world that we do today. This means that the hospitality industry is still growing. And right now, it’s a prime field for launching exciting, lucrative careers.
Are you someone who enjoys socializing? Do you like to meet new people? Are you great at entertaining and creating a relaxing atmosphere? Do you enjoy traveling and seeing new places yourself?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could be the perfect fit for a hospitality position. There is a great demand for workers in this field. In fact, it’s one of the most prosperous industries to work in right now. Plus, this work comes with perks — free and highly discounted flights, cruises, hotel stays, fine dining, and more!
If you are in search of a new and exciting career and are interested in learning more about hospitality, contact Career Technical Institute in Washington DC. Their well-respected hospitality program is open to any and all who are interested. You don’t need a college degree to apply, and you can complete the program in only 28 weeks.
A medical office professional does so much more than simply check-in patients. Those considering this career should know that the person who holds it bears much weight. They’ll need to enjoy working with the public, for instance. It helps to be outgoing. It helps to have above-average communication skills. An ability to manage people is helpful as well. If this describes you, you might have what it takes to pursue a job as a medical office professional.
As part of your training, you’ll learn many skills:
But there are many more skills you’ll need to move successfully through your day in a medical office. Several are ones that can’t really be taught. Before you pursue this career, ask yourself these questions:
Your patients may not be at their best upon your first meeting. They may be ill, injured or scared. These are all situations that can escalate quickly if you are unable defuse them. This is why it’s vital to have a firm foundation of people skills on top of all the training.
Empathy is another necessary skill that can’t easily be taught. And as a medical professional, empathy goes a long way toward helping you anticipate the needs of your patients. While it’s never a good idea to identify too completely with someone who’s hurt or in pain, empathizing with them can help steer a volatile situation in the opposite direction.
