If you read the reports on hospitality’s 2017 expectation, you might have a dim view of the hospitality industry. However, the outlook for 2017 is good. Many articles blast big headlines about the mixed bag that 2017 holds. From a bottom line perspective they are right. For anyone looking for a job in hospitality, 2017 is the year.
CBRE Hotels hits the nail on the head in their “hospitality outlook report.” The big gripe behind many of the “mixed bag” articles is a smaller Average Daily Rate. The average daily rate for rooms will grow only marginally. The good news is that hotels will run at near full levels for 2017. Ultimately, this means more jobs.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows a slow but steady rise in employment in hospitality over the end of 2016. That trend should go on for 2017. They expect that the demand for lodging, food, and entertainment will create jobs. Meaning that 2017 is going to be a big year for hospitality jobs.
A check of the The BLS’s national outlook shows promise. The report shows that jobs in the lodging and food services will grow. In fact, they expect new jobs to grow by 9.1 percent through 2024. Moreover, a recent article on the Hotel News Resource’s site shows the positive side of the hospitality industry for 2016. The forecast for 2016 was 1.7 percent growth and for 2017 look for jobs to grow by 1.9 percent. Moreover, is that the forecast for 2017 shows the need for rooms will match room supply.
